About Us

yellow house; Women's Center

Founded in 1994, the Women’s Center serves as a resource for the university and surrounding community on gender-related and women’s issues; sponsors educational programs and events that raise awareness of women’s issues; and serves as an on-campus focal point for services for survivors, their friends and families. As a unit of the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, we serve Virginia Tech students, faculty and staff. We aim to use our platform for change, not only in voice and thought, but in action, resources, and support.

Our mission statement: To engage the VT community in creating an affirming and supportive environment in order to advance gender equity, including the centering of marginalized genders, through advocacy and education.

Our vision is: A Virginia Tech community where students, faculty and staff of all genders, sexualities, races, ethnicities, classes, abilities, ages:

  • are free to express all aspects of their identities
  • can succeed academically, professionally and personally
  • are free from gender- and power-based violence
  • are inspired to promote equity and challenge oppression
